My work for Paint Presque Isle: R.W. Wight building, State Street.

Acrylic over photo on canvas; about 13×36″; 18 August, 2012. Sold at the evening auction to Kevin Kinney. Thanks to Aroostook Partners in the Arts for a great day. Proceeds from the auction go to arts programing in local schools. They allow a 50/50 split of the auction take with the artists. I painted on location near the spot where I took the 2011 photograph. I talked to several passersby and handed out a bunch of my new business cards. I was very upfront about painting over a photograph but no one challenged me. Prints are available.

I love the light in this image. The center of the painting has the look of an Edward Hopper that I really like. When the painting was on display at the auction I thought it looked very dark. Oil-color-artist, Frank Sullivan, said that the acrylic medium goes on translucent but dries transparent thus darkening the pigments (or reveling the true color).
